The 73rd Dunkin’ Men’s Beanpot finals took place last night at TD Garden, and while the Terriers fought to defend their championship title, they ultimately fell to the Eagles of Boston College.

The game ended 2-6, with the Eagles winning their first Beanpot title in 10 years, per NCAA data.

The Terriers saw a very different game unfold compared to their semi-final game last week against Northeastern. In the 300th battle of Comm. Ave., the Terriers struggled to control the game after a strong showing in the first period.

The Terriers scored first, with Sophomore Brandon Svoboda finding the net just over two minutes into play. However, BC closed the gap minutes after, scoring on a power play.

BC would score three more times during the contest, maximizing on the power-play advantage, per Terrier Athletics.

Sophomore Cole Eisermen scored again for the Terriers in the final period to cut into BC’s lead, 2-4. The Eagles would find the net two more times, with the final goal on an empty net with 1:11 left in regulation.

To celebrate the 300th match-up of the longtime rivals, who first faced off against each other in 1918, two greats of both programs participated in a ceremonial puck-drop. The two legendary coaches and Hockey Hall of Famers, Jack Parker of Boston University and Jerry York of Boston College, skated against each other five times as players before coaching against each other in 82 installments of the rivalry matchup, per Terrier Athletics.

The Terriers will be looking to better their record (13-14-2) this Friday when they travel to the University of New Hampshire. BU will take on BC again this month on Feb. 27 at Agganis Arena.
