Michelle Wu emerged victorious in the Boston Mayoral race last night, becoming the first woman of color to be elected mayor of Boston. Wu swept the race, winning 64% of the vote, defeating fellow City Councilor Annissa Essaibi George. Wu will take over the office on Nov. 16, replacing Acting Mayor Kim Janey.
Wu, a Chicago native, has been a resident of Boston since she moved here to attend Harvard University. Her election has broken the tradition of electing a mayor with lifelong roots in Boston.
Phoebe Chen witnessed the historic win in South Boston and spoke with some of Wu’s supporters.
