Countless qualified runners from all over the world have come to Massachusetts for the annual Boston Marathon. It’s a world-famous event and receives national recognition. However, it’s also important to acknowledge all the efforts that happen behind-the-scenes of the runners.
The BU News Service spoke with a running coach and a few Boston Marathon runners to gain insight into what goes on in the training process to prepare for the highly anticipated marathon.
Sarah Dupré-Healy, the B.A.A. running club coach, described how she coaches the people in her running club. As she mostly looks over post-collegiate athletes with a background in running, she provided details of how she guides these athletes with flexibility during the four-month training period for the Boston Marathon.
The Boston Marathon participants also shared their training plans. Jackie Burr, Alex Cameron and Carolyn Mooney gave specific details about their daily regimen, workout times, specific strengthening exercises and changes in diet.
