Normally, Sharon’s Lake Massapoag sits dormant during wintertime with the occasional duck landing on the water or a brave soul ice-fishing. On March 4, however, the lake was full of life as dozens of individuals took a quick dip in the annual Polar Plunge for the Massachusetts Special Olympics, raising $44,490. The event was organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run in conjunction with the Sharon Fire and Police departments.

Although temperatures were frigid and a blizzard was underway, participants and spectators alike still made it out in droves to support the cause.

Boston University News Service photographer Jared Jacob captured some scenes from the event on March 4.
