UPDATE 10:35 a.m.: The latest BU alert states the Mugar Library and GSU are now open for occupancy as police clear the area.
UPDATE 9:35 a.m.: BU News Service’s Zoë Mitchell reports from the scene that police are calling the situation a bomb-threat hoax and that the area is reopening to cars and pedestrians.
UPDATE 9:15 a.m.: The Boston Globe reports that “the area has been closed to pedestrian traffic and State Police were moving to close Storrow Drive to pedestrians.” According to WFXT Fox 25, phone lines around campus are down.
ORIGINAL REPORT: The Boston University Alert Service has notified students and staff on campus about a “heavy police presence” at 771 Commonwealth Avenue. The address refers to an area in the George Sherman Union near the Bank of America and the Mugar Memorial Library. An email alert urges students to stay away from the area in question.
