Boston University women’s soccer clinched its fifth Patriot League title last Saturday, solidifying their spot at the top of the league heading into more postseason play. The Terriers defeated Bucknell in the championship game that went into a penalty kick shoot-out.

After both teams were unable to break the 1-1 ties during overtime play, BU outshot the Bisons eight to seven in the penalty kicks. Senior goalkeeper Celia Braun made two saves to secure the win for BU.

BU’s lone goal came in the final four minutes of the game when Junior Morgan Weaver found the back of the net to keep the Terriers in the game. Weaver earned the honors of Patriot League Tournament MVP and joined Graduate Student Lily Matthews, Senior Morgan Fagan and Junior Mackenzie Stickelman on the conference’s All-Tournament Team.

The BU women will now face off against fourth-seeded Texas, who is ranked 21st nationally, in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Terriers will travel to Texas for their game on Nov. 15, and this will be the first time the two programs will play each other.

The Longhorns are coming out of their conference tournament as SEC champions in their first year as part of the conference. Texas went 16-3-2 this season compared to BU’s record of 6-7-7. Drawing comparison is difficult, however, Texas is favored in the matchup.
