The BU Men’s basketball team lost their season opener to the Northeastern Huskies Friday night at Matthews arena by a score of 85-77.
The Huskies built a large first half lead, at one point leading the Terriers by 16 points just before the half. The Huskies had seven first half three-pointers.
The Terriers struggled mightily from the three point line in the first 20 minutes of play, shooting 1-13 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Kyle Foreman got into foul trouble in the first half and never got into a grove all game.
The Terriers cut the lead down to five halfway through the 2nd half, at 54-49. But the Huskies got to the line 32 times in the 2nd half alone, including 15 times from their senior guard T.J. Williams who scored 19 of his game-high 30 points in the 2nd half.
Terrier senior guard Eric Fanning scored a team-high 29 points on 10-18 shooting, including 9-12 from the free throw line.
All three freshman saw action for the Terriers in their first collegiate game.
Forward Max Mahoney grabbed one rebound in four minutes of action. Guard Destin Barnes and Forward Tyler Scanlon each were on the court for 18 minutes – Barnes scored 11 points (nine of those coming on three triples ) while Scanlon total two points.
The Terriers will have a full week off before facing Northeastern in a rematch next Friday night at Agganis Arena.
Justin Allston and Cedric Hankerson played in their first games from returning from foot and knee injuries, respectively. Allston played in eight games last season and Hankerson in only one.
