WATCH: Bostonians’ plans for Valentine’s Day as spending expected to hit record high

BOSTON — Love was in the air Friday as late shoppers flocked down to stores in Boston in search of Valentine’s Day gifts for their significant others. The National Retail Federation expected US customers to spend a record $197 on average to celebrate love Feb. 14 this year. Residents of Boston debated whether or not Valentine’s Day was the perfect occasion to get down on one knee and ask the fabled question: Will you marry me? Recent data from Google Trends suggested some people may be searching for the right way to pop the question in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day.
