Boston University News Service
Biking has grown in popularity over the last few years as an alternate option to driving — especially for students on a college campus. But when your college campus is right in the middle of a big city like Boston, how safe is it? Listen to Beat Reporter Shira Levy explore it!
I very much agree that there is so much selfish driving that it makes cycling so incredibly dangerous for cyclists. In my opinion, changing the culture of selfish driving and more awareness for cyclists should 100% start at Driver’s Ed. Having a core curriculum focused on sharing and having awareness that drivers are not the only ones using the road should be a high priority by the State. This, in combination with improved infrastructure focused on reducing latent errors, I feel, is a way to prioritize all road users (including pedestrians) of the city, and improve public safety.
Thanks for this episode! It is so important, and I feel especially connected to the issue as someone who has been nearly hit by a car multiple times in the span of 3 months.
