Natalie Brown, mother of five-year-old Sebastian, said adding charter schools into the pool of options to consider for a child’s education adds more stress for parents. “When I was growing up there were no options, you went to the [closest] school,” Brown said. “Having more options available can make that decision even more stressful to decide.”
In order to feel engaged in children’s education, she prefers the proximity option. The UP Academy Charter School of South Boston is centrally located on Dorchester Street, but Brown questions the charter school’s curriculum and would rather send her child to a well-established public school that follows the statewide curriculum.
