Newtown Victims Honored

The Boston Marathon is honoring the victims of the Newtown, Conn., shooting with a special mile marker in Monday’s race.

Unveiled Thursday, the 26th mile marker incorporates the city seal and 26 stars, one for each of the victims of the shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.

Dr. Laura Nowacki, speaking on behalf of Team Newtown Strong, says the runners are ready to honor the memory of the lives lost in order to give strength to the families left behind.

26 seconds of silence was observed at the start of the race.
